Louise Brooks was born in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. Louise gained a distinction in HND’s in Photography, Design and Fine Art, as well as qualifying with a BA (Hons) degree in Visual Arts and Communication from Southampton University in the UK, with a year’s study at RIT in New York State in the US.
Since her emergence into the creative industry in the mid 1990’s Louise has had well-published work in a wide range of magazines as an illustrator and has worked as a picture editor and photographer for leading holiday brands. She wrote her own monthly art feature as Art Editor for Brighton & Hove Life (2006-08) and has also published an illustrated children’s book.
Her work is an intriguing exploration, combining contemporary abstract seascapes with her textural design ideas, resulting in an even more three-dimensional feel to the latest collection. Constantly on a quest to capture the eternal beauty of nature, from the essential quality of light that dances on the horizon as the sun sets, to the hot and vibrant hues in the petals of a flower.
It is her fascination with the natural world that has lead to an in-depth study of geology to gain a better understanding of how rocks and minerals form. This has resulted in the use of multiple layers in her work, reflecting a passage of time, as each layer overlaps; it creates a myriad of colours, contrast and texture beneath the surface.
As the shimmering layers of her paintings unfold, hidden depths and light burst out in an explosive spectrum of colour. Throughout the day, as the light changes there is a feeling of animation in each piece, as if it transcends the canvas it is created on, as the light refraction emerges in evocative ways.
The emotive quality in her work goes deeper still as she incorporates semi-precious gemstones and Swarovski crystals, known for their healing and rebalancing powers. Her paintings are not only a visual response to the magical world around us but a place for sanctuary and contemplation, a haven from our busy lives.
Since her first solo show in 2001, Louise’s work has been widely exhibited in the UK. Her award-winning artwork has become a part of both private and corporate collections throughout Britain, Europe, the USA and Asia.
Louise lives and works as a professional artist in Saltdean, in East Sussex and it is here, living by the sea that she is able to live out her life-long passion of painting as a full-time artist.
