To mark the occasion, gallery owner Paola Calise has come up with the idea of a unique fundraising art event called ‘ten for 10’. Ten of the gallery’s most popular artists are donating ten original paintings for a charity art raffle, with all proceeds going to Brighton based water aid charity drop4drop.
Raffle tickets cost just £10, and with paintings valued from £300 to £1000, ‘ten for 10’ offers the chance to own a piece of artwork for a fraction of the price, whilst contributing to a really worthwhile cause. You can view the paintings and buy tickets either at the gallery or online, at www.artatfive.com/raffle. The raffle will close on Monday October 14th and winners will be announced via Latest 7 and the art at five website on Tuesday October 22nd.
Artists taking part in the raffle include Lisa Ridgers, whose paintings feature on two of the most successful programmes on US network TV, The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men, Philippe Aird, who was taught at an early age by L.S. Lowry, hugely popular Devon artist Yvonne Coomber and one of South Africa’s leading artists, Natasha Barnes. Brighton artists Louise Brooks and Tina Davies have painted pieces especially for the charity raffle and artists Deborah Flueeler-Jones, Maureen Greenwood, Nick Vivian and David Walker have also donated beautiful paintings.
Paola Calise explains ‘After ten successful years in the city we wanted to do something really special to celebrate our 10th anniversary. The idea of ten artists donating works of art to raise funds for a Brighton based charity seemed perfect. Our artists were extremely generous in donating their pictures and we now hope the public get on board and help us raise money for what is an inspirational charity’.
drop4drop is a hugely important charity working globally to help people who have no access to clean water. It runs projects that, for as little as £1, can provide a person with safe, clean drinking water for life. Art at Five hope to raise enough money to fund a well for the Chennavaram community in East India, who currently have to walk 2km every day to collect contaminated water from unprotected sources.
Art at Five would like to invite everyone to come along and celebrate their milestone birthday with them over the weekend of October 12 – 13th. Drinks and refreshments will be provided by Brighton cafe Moksha, a recent finalist in the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink awards, and the famous Brighton choclatiers Choccywoccydoodah, with award-winning wines from Barefoot Wines, who will be introducing their new Pink Moscato bubbly.
